On Tuesday, March 5, 2024, the Hawaii state Senate passed Senate Bill 3335 (SB3335) which would establish a regulated recreational cannabis if fully passed into law.
SB3335 covers:
- Allowing for adult-use cannabis sales for adults 21 years of age or older
- Taxes for both adult-use and medical cannabis sales
- Adults 21 years of age or older may possess up to one ounce of cannabis and up to five grams of cannabis concentrates
- Allowing home cultivation of up to six cannabis plants per home
- Allow for possession of up to two pounds of harvested home cultivated cannabis
If this passes, the measure would be slated to take effect on January 1, 2026.
Next steps for SB3335 are to go to the House and then to land on Governor Green’s desk. If passed, SB3335 would make Hawaii the twenty-fifth state to allow for adult-use cannabis. The last state we saw to join the recreational cannabis revolution was Ohio, passing Issue 2 into law on November 7, 2023.
