MJ Freeway Joins Cannabis Against COVID Campaign

MJ Freeway, an Akerna Company, is proud to support Cannabis Against COVID (CAC), a grassroots campaign that brings together companies and individuals from the cannabis and music industries as well as advocacy groups who are working towards two common goals.

The first goal is to enable broader access to cannabis through legislation that allows for adult use, recreational cannabis delivery in states across the nation. CAC’s second goal is to provide critical PPE and testing kits to those on the frontlines. Additionally, the group has started an online petition to support its work in Colorado – the first state the campaign is focusing on.

CAC is spearheaded by EC Presents, an event productions and promotion company based in Colorado and California. Currently, EC Presents is working with the Governor’s office and Marijuana Enforcement Division in Colorado, to pass a bill to provide infrastructure for cannabis delivery in the state. In states where delivery is legal, dispensaries have increasingly adopted cannabis delivery as a way to safely deliver products to patients and consumers while remaining compliant with CDC social distancing guidelines. Delivery also helps minimize the risk of COVID-19 infection to budtenders and other dispensary employees. With social distancing mandates becoming the new normal, cannabis delivery will become a crucial step to ensuring products safely gets into the hands of consumers. Advocating for legal delivery across the U.S. is an initiative that MJ Freeway is proud to support.

How cannabis delivery can help fight COVID-19

The group is also working to have delivery providers include a surcharge on all adult-use, recreational deliveries that will go directly to a fund to fight COVID-19. After initial success in Colorado, the group is planning to expand efforts to other states where delivery is not allowed and where there is a significant decline in cannabis sales. These combined efforts can ultimately help save lives, improve local economies, and contribute to job creation in the U.S. during the global COVID-19 pandemic.

The CAC campaign is an example of the kind of grassroots activism that helped the industry progress to where it is today. MJ Freeway was one of the first cannabis compliance software companies to get involved and its mission is important to us as it aligns with our core values as a company: Do the right thing; Be part of the solution; Show people you care; Make an impact & Grow together.

Not only will it benefit the cannabis industry, but it will also benefit the health and well-being of dispensary employees and consumers, particularly in these uncertain times when stress and anxiety levels are so high. Through MJ Freeway’s integrations with partners like I Heart Jane, we’ve created a model that supports the entire cannabis supply chain, from order processing to contactless delivery and cashless payment – all of which can help businesses increase revenue and preserve jobs right away, once legislation is passed.

Dispensaries and other cannabis businesses have been hit especially hard in areas where delivery is not an option, and we want to do our part to help lessen the global impact of COVID-19. As a leading provider of seed-to-sale technology, MJ Freeway can play a strong role in helping cannabis operators recapture lost revenue and expand their businesses.
